Lightcycle Battle

I made this as a theme for my jailbroken iPod Touch. It took me a few days to complete and optimize the model of the lightcycle, and another couple of days to finish the scene and render it. It was a lot of fun to make. The hardest part was finding a balance between all the textures and lights that are emitted from the bikes. There is only single light in the scene, all other light comes from luminescence.

I build the lightcycle in Rhino and imported and rendered it in Cinema 4D. The texture for the game grid was made in Photoshop. No post coloring was done, it's a straight-C4D render. Reference material came from stills from the movie "Tron," both online and pausing the DVD!

Comments and criticisms welcome!

This is my final for a class project. It took a lot of time to get the render as realistic as possible. It also took about every little bit of knowledge I possess about 3D to make this, meaning that I stayed extremely organized and the project came together nicely and smoothly.

There is nearly no post-work.

There is also a short animation I did using this model and setup. Maybe eventually I'll post it.

The Last Chain, and The One Ring

I did these a long time ago (2001?) back when I really didn't know much about computers or 3D.

I had played around with Vue De'Sprit (spl?) and created a bunch of landscapes, all of which did not survive the 'Great Crash' of '02. These only survived because I put them on disc.

Anyway, I was disappointed that Vue didn't come with more models because I wanted to make pictures that told stories and that was hard to do with landscapes alone.

In The Last Chain I had a vision of something huge and ancient being attached to gigantic chains. I used a bunch of Torus (torusi?), a bunch of spheres, and a few squares.

I found the One-Ring model online and can't be credited with its creation. I wanted to show the beautiful ring, lost and forgotten in the mud. The 'mud' itself is actually a super-high-res mountain with a brown texture, but due to the scale of the plants and ring it completes the illusion. The water is way too mirror-like, I think -- but this was one of my first few attempts at 3D.

The Ship

This may look unfinished, however my assignment for class was to create a model that could be printed on a 3D Z-Corp Printer in which my school owns.

I modeled Completely in Rhino and this render was done in Cinema 4D. The original Rhino file was then converted into a format the Z-Corp printer could understand (I think .dxf?).

Then it was printed. Online estimates for this kind of print was about $400 on some sites -- my school did it for free (if you don't count the $1000 I paid for the class itself!).

I was inspired by playing a lot of WipeOut for the PS2.

I got an 'A'.

The Ring

This was a flash of inspiration (from a dream, perhaps?).

It is nearly exactly as I imagined it in my head. I wanted the ring itself to be mysterious. Not knowing what it is or what it does or what is beyond it; this is where your imagination fills in the blanks.

I hope you guys like. Please leave a comment :-)

Canister

I made this one a long time ago in Cinema 4D 7 and as soon as I got 9.5 I went back in and played with the 'Advanced Renderer' to see how different it would look. I'm very happy with the speed of the C4D 9.5 rendering engine -- I rendered the same image in about a third of the time.

This canister was done mainly with extrusions of polygon faces and the selection tool. It took a long time to get the glow and lighting just right.

I think if I were to do this canister again I could make it even better. Perhaps when I'm out of school. :-)
